PETERNAL INSTINCTS, Inc.
PROFESSIONAL PET SITTING SERVICE

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Why hire a pet sitter?

A pet sitter offers both you and your pet many benefits. Your pet gets the environment he knows best; his same diet and routine; relief from traveling to and staying in an unfamiliar place with other animals (such as a boarding kennel); attention while you are away.

What do I get from this?

Happier friends and neighbors who aren't burdened with caring for your pet; peace of mind knowing that your pet is being cared for by a professional; someone to bring in your newspaper and mail so potential burglars won't know you're away; someone who will come to your home so you don't have to drive your pet to a boarding kennel; other services provided such as watering plants, play time/exercise for your pet, security check of home, etc.

What should I look for in a pet sitter?

It's important to learn all that you can regarding a sitter's qualifications and services. When considering a pet sitter, get the answers to these questions:

  • Can the pet sitter provide proof of liability insurance (covering accidents and negligence) and proof of bonding (to protect against theft)?

  • What will happen if the pet sitter experiences car trouble or becomes ill? Is there a backup person who he/she will use?

  • Does he/she have a listing of all services included in the pet sitter's rates?

  • Is there a written contract outlining services and fees?

  • If the pet sitter provides overnight services, what are the times that he/she will be there with your pet? Is this detailed in the agreement?

  • How will your pet sitter know that you have returned home? Is there a procedure for this?

  • Is there a list of references for whom the pet sitter has performed pet sitting services for and will he/she provide it upon request?

  • Will the pet sitter come to your home to meet you and your pet prior to beginning services?

Why not just use the Kid Next Door?

Are you kidding? Pet sitters share more horror stories related to the kid next door or the neighbor who promises to come in and take care of your pet. Lack of concern on the part of non-professionals, lack of responsibility, lack of professionalism are all reasons to hire a pet sitter. It is a pet sitter's love for animals that puts us in this vocation in the first place. We are willing to take the responsibility of feeding, watering, administering medication, staying overnight with your pet, providing love, attention and exercise, etc. Many people not in this business just don't have the same devotion.
